Same struggles, Same Paths

Working to coordinate national civil rights struggles, Walter U. Lum and W. E. B. Du Bois build support systems in similar paths -- C.A.C.A.'s daily newspaper, The Chinese Times (1924-1988), and the NAACP's periodical, The Crisis (1910-present), each support regular investigative journalism that speaks to the needs of the community.

C.A.C.A. works to address the separation of families forced by the Chinese ...
... Exclusion Laws, where wives of Asian descent are prevented from emigrating to reunite with their U.S.-citizen husbands. Public protests against racist depictions of Chinese in popular media are another line of advocacy.
NAACP director Walter White (1893-1955) investigates lynchings, and appoints chief council Charles Hamilton Houston (1895-1950), who visually documents the unequal conditions at "separate but equal" schools. Raising a next generation of lawyers crusading for equal ...
... protection under the law, Houston strengthens the legal training available to African Americans, and, while fostering a team of attorneys, successfully implements a strategy to build precedent to eliminate segregated schools and public facilities.
